Managers may play an important role in the development and management of human resource management plans. They must be involved in the formulation of company benefits objectives, identifying and documenting job-related goals and objectives, developing methods of evaluating these objectives, providing feedback to employees on their performance and contributions, monitoring the performance and success of management personnel in relation to these objectives, reporting regularly to the employer on progress in human resource management matters, advising the employer concerning the employment of individuals and relating the human resource management function to the overall business strategy. With increasing global competition, companies are taking greater interest in the skills of their human resource management professionals. These professionals must be capable of recruiting, developing and retaining the best human resource management talent.

A good human resource management system should also take into account aspects such as education, skills, personality, values, and career preferences.
