Recruitment specialists, also called talent acquisition specialists, are often tasked with locating the most effective employees for an organisation. In many cases they work in conjunction with the human resource manager of that department, they are hiring for, or are contracted through an external recruitment agency. Recruitment specialists have many talents that make them extremely successful at what they do, including: the ability to close short-listed jobs, the understanding of what makes a good employee, analytical and research skills, good writing skills, good customer service skills, and a variety of others. Some recruitment specialists may specialise in particular fields or areas such as IT or marketing. Recruitment specialists are highly skilled professionals who are hired by large organisations or small firms because of their ability to find candidates with the right skill set or education who may possess a relevant talent.

Each recruitment specialist needs to develop and update their clientele, in order to stay ahead of the competition. While hiring managers and recruitment consultants can provide detailed information about their process, it is up to the recruitment specialist to find the job candidates who have not been previously contacted by other organisations, but who seem to be perfect for the position being offered. The recruitment specialist needs to understand that every organisation has different needs, and therefore different candidates, and must constantly stay on top of developments to ensure that they keep their clients' needs and interests in mind at all times.

Some recruitment specialists begin their job as part-time employees, working out of their own home. These employees need to understand how to locate the right candidates, what type of techniques to use in order to capture their specific talents, how to sell themselves to potential employers, how to construct an effective CV, how to interview, and how to promote themselves to their clients. This understanding of what a recruiter should do on a daily basis is something that is invaluable to recruitment specialists. Part-time employees will also be able to help their clients better understand their current situation and future plans.
